Volume the Series Review

I tend to digress a lot in my blog articles like those annoying home chefs who never get to the recipe.  But today, I will provide a short and to the point review for the Kenyan Volume the Series on Netflix, and you can save time and get started on it.

The TV show follows a young man, Benja, trying to make it in the rap music scene in Nairobi, but he is drawn into some criminal dealings by his best homie. Along the way, he changes from the innocent guy with pure idealistic views about, but he does not lose his original heart despite some detours.

But this story is not a one-dimensional narrative which follows the classic hero's journey. As Benja navigates his musical path, he builds his crew: an ensemble of his gang homie, a producer fighting demons, a beautiful influencer with unknown motives, and a church girlfriend.

And the series is brilliant because each character, even the minor ones, are quite well-developed.

It might feel like you know each of them to some extent, and the story is fast paced, even as it explores some difficult issues, such as religion, crime, death, family dysfunction, and sex. And all the actors are brilliant for their roles!

As a Kenyan, I will give Volume the Series a 10/10.

This series is a raw and beautiful representation of the real Nairobi.

Based on the use of Sheng, I think anyone who does not understand the language's brilliant nuances might rate it at 8/10. The subtitles are totally accurate, but Sheng can be very poetic. 😊

If you are still wondering if Volume is worth watching, yes, it is 100% worthwhile.

Conclusion

Engagement: 10/10 (Volume is binge-worthy)

Character Development: 8/10 (I wish some of my favourite characters got more airtime).

Story: 8/10 (Solid story. I hope this is just the beginning of a long journey. Fingers crossed.)

Acting: 10/10 (Each person was perfect for their role, but I do not think there is an argument on the best actor in Volume. You will know what I mean after watching.)

Parental Guidance: 18+ (The series has adult themes and content. Viewer discretion advised.)
